Title:
GM&O 516
Description:
Empty coal train led by five GM&O units on the EJ&E. I believe these trains went to a power plant in northern Indiana, but not sure. Does anyone know how they were routed? I don't remember there being a convenient connection between the GM&O and EJ&E at Joliet. GM&O 516 was later ICG 2266, scrapped 6/87. Date of photo approximate.

Southern Railfans
Description:
A couple of months before the Illinois Central–Gulf Mobile & Ohio merger a couple of railfbns from the south end of the GM&O (Jim Selzer from Slidell and Earl Hampton from New Orleans) headed north to document the railroad before it disappeared. Here, Jim Selzer was observing the engines at the railroad’s shop in Venice, Illinois. Of particular interest was the 950, which had been built as EMD SD40 prototype 434, on an SD35 frame. It was unique on the GM&O and had been purchased in July 1966 to replace wrecked GP35 614. The GM&O and the ICG may be gone, but the 950 lives at the Monticello Railway Museum as IC 6071. (approximate date)

IC GP10 8005
Description:
Illinois Central (ICG) GP10 8005 in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in August 1978, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in April 1954 as IC GP9 9005, it was rebuilt during 1972 by the Paducah Shops to GP10 8005, sold to the CC as 8005, later renumbered to CC 1705, returning to the IC and renumbered to 8402. It is seen here eastbound at the east end of the ICG's Iowa Division, also known as the Saint Charles Air Line, climbing up over the downtown Chicago area and will shortly be southbound on the ICG's suburban Electric Division for the final leg of the trip to Markham Yard on the south side of Chicago.
