Description: |
Winter. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 03 January 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #7108 and #7054. Both are EFS-17M's built by EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each; #7108 was built in 1957, but #7054 was built in 1956. They are moving past WORKS Tower with a string of empty hopper cars, and are about to climb the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible on the left are some of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. Visibile above the train is the 4th Street Bridge: the new (girder) version is being built inside the old (cast iron) structure. |
