Description:
ston ( Montana ) Rebuild Center, Burlington Northern Railroad GP40G 3078 at Cotter, Arkansas on September 6, 1993, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The train is on a downward 1% grade and will stop in about a mile for a crew change, so it's likely in dynamic braking. Number 3078 was built in February 1969 ( c/n 34837 ) as B&O GP40 3714, owned by GATX, returned to GATX upon expiration of lease on May 17, 1984, leased to the Canadian Pacific from mid-1984 to January 1989, returned to GATX, sent to the Livingtston ( Montana ) Rebuild Center, rebuilt in-kind and outshopped on May 3, 1989 as BN 3078, returned to GATX by the BN on February 28, 1992, leased to the M&NA in December 1992, leased to the New England Central as 3078 in January 1995, renumbered to NECR 4047 during July 1999.
