Title:
NEKM
Description:
The Northeast Kansas & Missouri RR was formed in 1989 when the UP sold the former St Joseph & Grand Island line from Marysville to St Jo to the new shortline. The outfit operated out of Hiawatha KS for only nine years before UP bought it back, largely to get empty coal trains off its heavily used route out of Topeka. The portion from Hiawatha west remains in use, everything east to St Jo was largely abandoned BY 2005. NEKM 2167 is a former ATSF GP7U.
