CRI&P NE 17728, Blue Island, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The Rock Island fabricated cabooses from old boxcars, this is one example, made sometime around 1943 from boxcars that were built in 1915 in 42200-45699 number series.. This one may still exist at Sharon, Wisconsin on the Schuyler W. Case Farm, Stateline Road.
